Guns N' Roses ‎– Appetite For Destruction

Genre:

Rock

Style:

Hard Rock

Year:

1987

Notes:

The debut album by Guns N' Roses, originally released on July 21, 1987.

The album debuted at No. 182 on the Billboard 200 album chart the week of August 29, 1987, and nearly a year later reached No. 1 the week of August 6, 1988, spending five non-consecutive weeks at number 1. Certified 18-times platinum and ranked the best-selling debut album of all time by the RIAA. In July of 2018, the album returned to the top 10 on the Billboard 200 after a deluxe reissue was released.

The original vinyl cover artwork was a painting by the artist Robert Williams (15), also titled 'Appetite For Destruction'. This artwork was deemed too controversial by retailers and was replaced by a 'cross tattoo' designed by Bill White Jr. and drawn by Andy Engel. Some versions of the US compact disc release had the booklet cover artwork reversed, with photos of the band members on the front, and the 'cross tattoo' on the inside.

Some vinyl and compact disc versions include a hype sticker affixed to the front cover advertising the single 'Sweet Child O' Mine', as well as the song 'Welcome To The Jungle' which was featured in the 1988 film 'The Dead Pool'.

The vinyl release was split into Side G and Side R; G dealt with themes like drugs and life in the big city, while R dealt with sex and relationships.
